Independent
InsideNK is independent. We are not funded by, or working for, any government, political party or company, and nobody pays us to publish anything. Our team does not publish its names, for safety reasons.
Where our news comes from
North Korea is almost impossible to report from directly, so we rely on established sources and always say which one:
- News agencies and specialist outlets - Yonhap, Reuters, AP, NK News, Daily NK, 38 North and others.
- South Korean and other government sources - the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the National Intelligence Service, the Unification Ministry - named as such.
- North Korean state media (KCNA, Rodong Sinmun) - always labelled as state media, because it is propaganda.
Claims we can't confirm are marked as reported or claimed. Numbers about North Korea - troops, weapons, the economy - are estimates, because the regime publishes almost nothing.
Our labels
- BREAKING - a major development, shown for about 8 hours.
- ALERT - a significant story.
- UPDATE - new information on a story we have already reported.
Maps, photos and video
- Map locations are marked approximate when the exact spot hasn't been published.
- We use only public domain or freely licensed photos, credited with their licence. Where we show the same type of equipment photographed in another country, we say so.
- Our graphics and videos are made in-house. Our videos use an AI-generated narrator voice; the script and facts are written and checked by our team.
Corrections
If you think we have got something wrong, email insidenk@protonmail.com with the link and what's wrong. We fix errors as quickly as we can, and where a mistake changes the meaning of a story we say what we corrected.
